Air that doesn't arrive
Ductwork & Airflow in Ocala, FL
The AC runs but one bedroom never cools, a vent drips, or there's a musty smell when it starts. Call to be connected with an independent local contractor who can look at the ducts.

Attic ducts in a humid climate
In many single-storey Ocala homes the ducts run through the attic, which can get far hotter than the outside air in summer. A loose joint or torn duct there pulls in hot, damp air and loses cooled air, so the system works harder and some rooms come up short.
Humidity adds a second problem. Where cold duct surfaces or vents meet humid air, water condenses. That is how ceiling stains, dripping registers and mildew around vents start. The EPA suggests keeping indoor humidity below 60 percent to limit mold growth.
A contractor can check airflow at each room, look at the duct runs in the attic, and test for leakage. The fix may be sealing and re-hanging a few runs, or replacing an old duct system.

Before you call
Five minutes of checks
- Which rooms are warm, and whether it is worse in the afternoon.
- Whether vents are open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.
- Water drips or stains around ceiling vents, and when they appear.
- A musty smell when the system starts. If you see mold spreading beyond a small spot, mention it; larger mold problems are usually handled by a mold specialist.
- The filter. A clogged filter cuts airflow to the whole house.
What ductwork work can involve
So you know what to expect from the contractor and what to ask.
Airflow readings
Measuring how much air reaches each room shows where the problem is.
Leak sealing
Mastic and approved tape at joints, boots and the plenum.
Re-hanging and repair
Sagging or crushed flex duct is straightened, supported or replaced.
Insulation
Ducts and vents that sweat may need better insulation or sealing at the ceiling.
Return air
Too little return air starves the system; extra returns or larger grilles may help.
Replacement
Old, damaged or poorly designed duct systems are sometimes replaced, often with a new AC system.
Planning figures
Ductwork & Airflow: typical planning ranges
Read this first. These are typical planning ranges for common jobs, not quotes, local averages or price guarantees. The contractor prices your job after seeing the system: tonnage, efficiency, refrigerant type, access and what else turns up all move the figure.
| Job | Typical planning range | Moves the price |
|---|---|---|
| Duct inspection and airflow check | $100 to $300 | Size of the house, attic access |
| Sealing accessible ducts | $400 to $1,800 | Number of runs, access |
| Replace one duct run | $250 to $650 | Length, attic conditions |
| Full duct replacement (single storey) | $4,000 to $10,000 | Size of the house, number of runs, design changes |

Ductwork & Airflow: common questions
Why is one room always warmer than the rest?
Common causes are a leaky or kinked duct to that room, too little return air, a room with more sun or windows, or a system that is undersized. Airflow readings usually narrow it down.
Why do my ceiling vents drip water?
Cold air leaving the vent meets warm, humid air and water condenses, often because of air leaks into the attic around the vent, missing insulation, or very high indoor humidity. Have it checked before the ceiling is damaged.
Is duct cleaning the same as duct repair?
No. Cleaning removes dust and debris; repair fixes leaks, damage and airflow. A contractor can tell you which, if either, your system needs.
Does it cost anything to call?
No. The call and the connection are free to you. The contractor you are connected with may pay us for the referral. Whatever you agree with them for the work is between you and that company.
